MOCT
240 E. Pittsburgh Ave.

Flourishing on the north end of the Walker's Point in a refurbished warehouse, Moct has spent the last five years creating new avenues for artists, musicians and DJs to blend art, music and Milwaukee culture.
Capitalizing on a full wall of garage doors in the summer, it sports a cool breeze in the summer and then closes things off for hot and steamy dance parties all winter long.
Menu: It's got a full bar, and although it's not specifically known for any one drink in particular, it does feature a fair amount of import beers, including the Serbian Big Nik.
Price: Moderate to expensive. Tap and domestic beers are $4 and imports are $5. Wine and specialty drinks are $7.
When to go: Thursdays after work. Moct serves an appetizer and small plate menu daily from 5 to 10 p.m. and during happy hour (5 to 8 p.m.), the bar offers a $10 all-you-can drink special on rails, domestics and wine.
Dress: Casual to fancy pants. The setting here is modern and sleek, so you would not feel out of place coming from work in business attire. And, if you like to get dressed up for a night out dancing, you'll fit right in. At the same time, if you'll feel just as comfortable in a more casual jeans look. If you show up in sweatpants and a Packers jacket, you might get some looks.
Don't miss: From the drinks menu, check out the Moct sangria -- red or white wine with muddled lemons, limes, oranges and cherries with a splash of coke. From the food menu, we recommend the duck fat fries, which come with anaoli dipping sauce.
Parking: Good luck. Sandwiched between Alterra, the Third Ward and the river lined with high-end condos, Moct's location is definitely hip, which almost always translates to poor parking options. Your best bet is to venture down South Water Street (not busy 1st Street) and hope to find some free curbside spots.
OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Julie Lawrence grew up in Wauwatosa and has lived her whole life in the Milwaukee area.
As any “word nerd” can attest, you never know when inspiration will strike, so from a very early age Julie has rarely been seen sans pen and little notebook. At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee it seemed only natural that she major in journalism. When OnMilwaukee.com offered her an avenue to combine her writing and the city she knows and loves in late 2004, she knew it was meant to be. Around the office, she answers to a plethora of nicknames, including “Lar,” (short for “Larry,” which is short for “Lawrence”) as well as the mysteriously-sourced “Bill Murray.”
