It’s been just over a year since Ray’s Wine & Spirits, 8930 W. North Ave., opened its Growler Gallery, an extension of the former Tasting Room and Educational Center.

The Gallery, which seats 45, is a beer lover’s dream, offering customers the opportunity to try a variety of beers not readily found elsewhere. In fact, every beer featured at the gallery is either a rare brewery-only release, special selection not found in bottles or a beer made exclusively for Ray’s. Customers can also take home growlers of any of the eight beers on tap at the Gallery.

But, starting this week, wine lovers can also join the party. The expanded Gallery, now called Ray’s Growler Gallery & Wine Shop, features a menu of over 14 wines, including  sparkling, rosé, white and red varietals. You can get a taste of wine for $3 or a glass for $6 to $9, with bottles averaging between $24 and $30.

"The Growler Gallery was really a project that came out of passion," says marketing director Orey Laev.  "We wanted to be able to offer people great beers that weren’t necessarily available by the bottle in the shop and give them a place to gather. It’s essentially the same theory behind the wines. As we get this off the ground, we’ll be offering an eclectic selection of great wines that you won’t find everywhere else for really affordable prices."

In addition to the Gallery expansion, Ray’s has also added full-service patio seating for 30 guests along the front of the shop. While guests can enjoy beer or wine on the patio, they are also encouraged to bring their own food to enjoy. Carry out from area establishments is encouraged.

In fact, John’s Sandwich Shop at 8913 W. North Ave. (just across the street from Ray’s) will be offering an exclusive Ray’s Patio Menu, available Thursday through Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. Orders can be texted to the restaurant, and food will be delivered direct to the patio.

Ray’s will also host food trucks on a regular basis. Saturday, July 25 beginning at 11 a.m., patio-goers can indulge in sliders and desserts from Hattie’s food truck.

"We’ve had a tremendous amount of support from the neighborhood," says Laev of the new additions. "This is a family businesses, and we really want to welcome people, encourage them to share our space and make them part of our family."

Ray's Growler Gallery, Wine Bar and Patio is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 10 p.m., Fridays from noon to 10 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
