"Real Pirates," an exhibition of real treasures from the only authenticated pirate shipwreck in U.S. waters, will sail into the Milwaukee Public Museum Dec. 14.

Jointly presented by National Geographic and Arts & Exhibitions International, the new exhibit showcases the true story of the Whydah, one of the most successful pirate ships of the Golden Age of Piracy. "Real Pirates" will separate fact from fiction about pirate life through artifacts, hands-on activities, re-creations, re-enactors portraying crew members and an exploration of underwater archaeology.

Some highlights of the excavated artifacts include the Whydah's bell, cannons and other weaponry, jewelry and real life sunken treasure.

"Real Pirates" will run daily through Monday, May 27, 2013. Ticket prices will be $24 for adults Monday-Thursday and $26 for adults Friday-Sunday, and $17.50 for children Monday-Thursday and $18.50 for children Friday-Sunday. All tickets will also include admission to the MPM's permanent exhibit galleries.
