In an effort to raise money for the YMCA Holton Youth Center and to support Riverwest taverns and restaurants, Erik Peterson and Benjamin Timm organized a pub crawl for the third year in a row.

"Our intent is to bring people into the Riverwest neighborhood and give them a chance to walk around and explore the many qualities of the area," says Timm.

The 21-stop crawl is scheduled for Sat., Mar. 15. Participants can sign in anytime between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. at 2670 N. Holton St. where they will receive a T-shirt and a map. Tickets are available at most of the bars for $20, or they can be purchased for $25 the day of the event. One free micro beer at each stop is included in the cost and the remainder of the money will go to the youth center.

Participating taverns include: Bosco's, Circle A, Club Carribe, Club '99, Dino's, Falcon Bowl, Foundation, The Gig, The Hop In, Klinger's East, Linneman's Riverwest Inn, Mayfield's, Nessun Dorma, Onopa Brewing Co., The Pub, River Horse, The Riverwest Tavern, Riverwest Commons, The Tracks, Uptowner and Mac's Red Eye. All of the bars are within walking distance.

Crawlers can go to the watering holes in any order and don't have to visit all of the locations. More than 21 micro beers will be featured throughout the crawl, with each stop featuring a different beer.

Local breweries donated the suds, including Lakefront, Stout Bros., Water Street, Onopa Brewing Co., New Glarus, Harbor City, Sprecher, Tyranea, Point and Pioneer.

"Most people stop at five to seven taverns, and then usually end up staying at one of bars, meetings friends and hanging out for the rest of the night," says Timm, an environmental planner with the City of Milwaukee, who -- along with Petersen -- is in charge of the volunteer program for installing city-purchased bicycle racks in Riverwest.

A number of places will also offer free food, or it can be purchased at Dino's, Tracks, Nessun Dorma, Bosco's, Fuel Café, West Bank Café or neighborhood bodegas.

Last year, an estimated 200 people attended the event and $4,100 was raised for charity. Timm hopes that at least 300 will participate this year.
