Dave Sobelman, owner of Sobelman's and Sobelman's Tallgrass Grill, signed a lease on Tuesday that will allow him to operate a third burger restaurant. His latest venture, Sobelman's @Marquette, will be located inside the old Angelo's space, 1601 W. Wells St., in the heart of the Marquette University neighborhood.

Sobelman says the students return August 26 and he would like to open his new burger joint two or three weeks prior. "I want to have a couple of weeks under my belt, before I'm faced with 11,000 students. So we'll probably open mid-August," he says.

Sobelman's @Marquette will offer a simple menu that features burgers, appetizers, a fish fry during Lent and, down the road, pizza. Sobelman received the recipes for Angelo's pizzas when he signed the lease.

"Everyone wants to know if we're going to serve pizza, because we're in the old Angelo's space. Eventually, yes, but first, I want to start out doing what I know best," he says.

Sobelman's @Marquette will be open until bar time Thursday through Saturday and until midnight the rest of the week. "This will be new for me. I'm used to people having a couple of drinks with their burger, not the guy who had five or 10 beers," says Sobelman.

Sobelman says he was contacted by Marquette – who owns the building – in October.

"I wasn't really looking, but the offer was pretty good. And it was flattering," he says.
