In the early days of my business – I'm talking at the start of this millennium – a friend of mine who's since moved to L.A. and I used to get together for lunch every few months. The plan was to talk work, to talk life, and to see how we could help each other out.
Each time, we'd go to the same place, the old Oakland Trattoria. Each time, we'd order the same lunch, the barbecue chicken pizza. For my money, it was the best of its kind in Milwaukee.
Oakland Trat is now SoLo Pizza, but fortunately, many of their recipes remain. And very fortunately, they dropped off three pizzas to the hungry staff of OnMilwaukee.com today. I was pretty happy that the barbecue chicken one tastes exactly the same.
The other two pizzas were good, too. Taking nothing away from the Adriatico and traditional pizzas we tried, I'm still partial to my special one.
As is the case with many flavors, it took me back. And it reminded me to figure out when my friend will visit Milwaukee again. We've got some SoLo pizza to eat and catching up to do.
