During my last few years in Milwaukee, I’ve found that this city has a number of interesting nooks and crannies just waiting to be discovered. My adventure this week was to the swing park located in the Multimedia Garden at the south end of the Marsupial Bridge.
What’s so special about this swing park, you ask? Well, it’s the perfect place to take a nice breather after a stressful day. There are multiple swings, including a lovely tire swing, which allow you to release your inner child again. The swings are placed above a large sandbox, so you can even make some sand castles if you’re really feeling it.
There are multiple places to sit around the park, perfect for those deep talks about the woes of dating in Milwaukee with your closest friends. Let’s be honest – we all are secretly looking for the perfect place to have a nice heart-to-heart.
As you walk through the park, you’ll find that there’s actually a beautiful hidden bridge to take a stroll beneath the main bridge! Stop for a scenic picture along the Milwaukee River, with a great view of the city for the backdrop.
The thing that really caught my eye was Lakefront Brewery, located directly along the lake under the bridge. I’ve heard of this place before, but never made my way over there. From what I hear, they have great beer, tasty fried cheese curds and an exceptional patio. In case you've somehow overlooked this local suds superpower, it might be in your best interest to fix that.
Don’t fret; the swing park also offers special nights of entertainment. Every third Friday, starting at 8 p.m., the Swing Park hosts a Bike-In Movie Series. Did I mention it was free? That’s right; you and your friends can bring out a few snacks, find a spot and enjoy a nice movie for no cost at all. The next Bike-In Movie Series will be on July 15, where the David Bowie cult classic "Labyrinth" will be played.
You can’t tell me that the swing park isn’t a great idea for a little summertime urban exploring.

Zoe Benjamin, currently a senior at UW-Milwaukee, was raised in the South suburbs of Chicago. She is a foodie, an avid traveler and music junkie, with just the right amount of nerdiness to top it all off.
Growing up in a large Jamaican family exposed her to a lifestyle full of food, laughter and pride. Zoe’s appreciation for her family’s eclectic nature led her to celebrate the differences in others. She just so happens to especially enjoy the study of food, seeing that eating is her favorite pastime.
Ever since she was able to get on a plane by herself, Zoe has taken the liberty of traveling to every place within her reach -- whether that be the next state over, or across the seas. Her wanderlust has taken her to 10 different countries, with France being her favorite. Nothing excites her more than French food and wine. Zoe hopes to absorb and share as much culture as she can so that the world may become that much more accepting of all the bountiful diversity in the world.
