When Tim Gokhman, a partner in Trio Apartments LLC, heard about adAPT NYC, a design competition hosted in 2012 by then New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, he was immediately intrigued.
The aim of the contest was to pilot a new type of housing for the city’s growing number of one and two-person households. This trend is also prevalent in Milwaukee, which is chock-a-block with single young professionals and couples wanting to take advantage of Milwaukee’s bustling downtown area. It only made sense to Gokhman to bring the concept of luxury living in efficient spaces to the popular Walker’s Point neighborhood. Enter Trio MKE.
"While Milwaukee isn’t ready for micro-units, we knew a well-designed studio would offer a refreshing alternative," says Gokhman of the in-construction Trio MKE apartments, a three-building collection on Washington Street between 1st and 2nd Streets in Milwaukee’s popular Walker’s Point neighborhood. Gokhman’s father, Boris, worked with architect Scott Kindness of Kindness Architecture and Planning to bring the concept to life. "It’s all about using technology and efficiency to maximize living spaces. We are utilizing every inch of space in a modern, hip and thoughtful way. And what started as an exercise to reinvent the studio ended up in new design solutions for our one- and two-bedroom floor plans as well."
The complex’s studios are perhaps its biggest attractions. The spaces are light and airy with a thoughtful layout that includes all wood-grain floors, a high-end kitchen, huge walk-in closet, a large balcony and a custom-made dining table designed to fold below a stylish queen-size Murphy bed. Like a modern, high-end hotel room, Trio MKE’s studios offer features that redefine efficient living.
The Walker’s Point neighborhood was an easy choice for Gokhman, a self-proclaimed foodie, who loves to frequent the dozens of top-notch restaurants within walking distance of his new development. "I like to call 2nd Street ‘Restaurant Mile,’" he says of the strip that includes Braise, Movida, AP Bar & Kitchen, Crazy Water, Black Sheep and many more of the city’s top-rated restaurants. "It’s the hottest area for development right now."
Trio MKE’s studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments offer cutting-edge stainless steel German Blomberg appliances that are energy and space efficient, glossy white custom cabinets and closets, oversized windows, convection ovens, balconies with stunning views of the city, in-unit washer/dryers, programmable digital climate control and even a hotel-like "entertainment lobby" – Trio MKE’s new take on a community room (think plush furniture, modern décor, TVs and more). The building’s coolest – and greenest – feature is its heating system: radiant heat floors offer unsurpassed comfort for your feet during the cooler months. A private fitness center, on-site office with concierge-level services, pet-friendly atmosphere, and heated indoor and outdoor parking add to the luxury living experience.
The mixed-use space, which Gokhman says will include specialty retail and culinary destinations, is expected to be completed in phases now through early fall. Studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments are renting now, and range from $1,175-$1,800. Learn more at NewLandMKE.com/Trio or on Facebook at facebook.com/triomke.
