I often stress that this is greater Milwaukee, and that what's good for the region is good for the city and vice verse. We're all in it together. And while, of course, there are times for parochialism today we celebrate a win for greater Milwaukee as one of its suburbs, Wauwatosa, made Movoto's list of "Happiest Suburbs."
Wauwatosa, where I grew up, ranked 19 on the list and was the only Wisconsin suburb included.
Dubin, in Ohio, came in at No. 1. Here's how the site ranked, "We started with a list of the largest suburban communities closest to the 50 largest cities in the nation, which came to a total of 119 places . We then gathered information about each place from sources including the 2010 U.S. Census, the 2012 FBI Uniform Crime Report, and WalkScore.com."
Happiness factors in the study included:
• Stress factors (high unemployment, long commutes, high cost of living)
• Personal safety (violent crimes)
• Residents making greater than $25,000 a year
• Married residents
• Home ownership
• Residents with a bachelor’s degree or higher
• Convenience of amenities
Agree? Disagree? Chime in via social media. But, kudos to Wauwatosa. And, go Raiders!
