More closures are in store for drivers using the Zoo Interchange this weekend -- including a temporary change in the detour route made necessary by the Friday closing of northbound U.S. 45 through the interchange.

Beginning at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, the following ramps will be closed until 5 a.m. Friday:

  • Connector ramp from northbound I-894/U.S. 45 to eastbound I-94
  • Westbound I-94 off-ramps to Highway 100
  • Beloit Road on-ramp to northbound I-894/U.S. 45
  • Oklahoma Avenue on-ramp to northbound I-894/U.S. 45

In addition, the previous on-ramp closures remain in effect as a result of the northbound bridge closure:

  • Greenfield Avenue
  • Lincoln Avenue
  • National Avenue

Portions of two surface streets are also closed because of the detour. South 84th Street is closed at I-94 to facilitate detour traffic and West O'Connor Street is closed at South 76th Street -- though local residents may still use the road.

Because the ramp to eastbound I-94 will be closed, the Department of Transportation has updated the northbound U.S. 45 detour for the weekend.

Drivers wishing to continue north on U.S. 45 or go east on I-94 will now head west on I-94 at the Zoo Interchange and proceed to Moorland Road (Exit 301A) where they can exit, turn around and take eastbound I-94 back to the Zoo Interchange and northbound U.S. 45.

Trucks should exit northbound U.S. 45 at Greenfield Avenue and drive east to South 84th Street; then north on 84th to eastbound I-94.

All travelers should expect increased congestion on I-894 northbound, I-94 eastbound and westbound, plan ahead and take alternate routes. Increased law enforcement and towing agencies will be in place to help manage traffic.
