"Bar Month" at OnMilwaukee is brought to you by Miller Brewing Company, calling Milwaukee home since 1855. For the entire month of March, we're serving up fun articles on bars, clubs and beverages – including guides, the latest trends, bar reviews, the results of our Best of Bars poll and more. Grab a designated driver and dive in!

Barnacle Bud's

According to both OnMilwaukee readers and staff members, the best place to imbibe when the sun's still out (an overcast day is fine, too) is Barnacle Bud's. The riverfront shack has the Floridian feel of a beach-style tiki hut, including an oyster bar and tropical drinks, without the searing sunburn.

Arrive by boat, bike, car or foot, grab a picnic table under an umbrella, leave your shades on and enjoy something delicious, refreshing and colorful. Or just have a Corona; you're day drinking by the water anyway, so who cares?

No matter what you order, Barnacle Bud's is OnMilwaukee editor-approved.

OnMilwaukee editors' pick: Barnacle Bud's

Runners up:

2. Steny's Tavern & Grill
3. Nomad World Pub
4. Leff's Lucky Town
5. The Wicked Hop

This year we also asked a variety of prominent Milwaukeeans to weigh in on their pick for specific categories. For this category, we consulted Tyler Maas, co-founder and editor of Milwaukee Record.

Maas' pick: Club Garibaldi

"Though I don’t exactly get wild in the sobering light of day as much as I used to (stupid responsibilities!), the rare times an early afternoon beer turns to two before prompting an unexpectedly early mini-bender, I’m usually at Club Garibaldi. As Bay View is in the midst of its transformation from quiet and oft-overlooked lakeshore enclave to booming bastion of bars and restaurants, G’s exists as an embassy for neighborhood lifers and newcomers alike. Open for business—usually by either owner/local treasure Joe Dean or daughter Kait—at 2 p.m. on weekdays and noon on weekends, the longstanding corner bar and grill is a warm, inviting Milwaukee gem with some of the city’s best wings, a deceivingly good beer selection, darts and pool, sports almost always on TV, and music or comedy in its sprawling back room every weekend. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better place in Bay View to kill an afternoon or await an apocalypse."
