It wasn’t 5 p.m. in Milwaukee or in Ireland when Caroline Hands presented a whiskey and beer tasting to the OnMilwaukee staff earlier today – but who’s clock watching when the opportunity for Monday mid-afternoon work drinking comes along? Certainly not us.

Hands, who is a Tullamore D.E.W. Brand Ambassador for the state of Wisconsin from Cork, Ireland, moved here in January of 2016 to expand the brand in the state.

The purpose of her visit was to introduce a variety of types of "Tully," including 14-year-old single malt whiskey, a 15-year-old bottle of Trilogy, 12-year-old special reserve whiskey (with a delicious lingering chocolate flavor!) and a limited edition, 110-proof Phoenix whiskey.

Hands also shared the "D.E.W. and a Brew" concept that recommends drinkers pair the Irish whiskey with a beer of their choice.

At first, this sounds like something that doesn’t need a campaign. Many drinkers, this one included, have shot all kinds of whiskey in between sips of beer. But Hands is suggesting something else: sipping whiskey and beer at the same pace.

"This is an age-old Irish tradition from Ireland way back in the 1800s," says Hands.

During that time, beer and whiskey were often produced side-by-side and Tullamore D.E.W. even had its own brewery.

"Because both liquids originate from malt, we call them ‘malt cousins’ and they naturally go well together," says Hands. "They contrast and compliment the flavors when drank together, side-by-side."

On St. Patrick’s Day, enjoy Tullamore D.E.W. specials and give the "D.E.W. and a Brew" a whirl at the following locations: Flannery’s, Red Lion, Three Lions, The Standard, Champions Pub, The Irish Pub and Drink Wisconsinbly Pub. OnMilwaukee will be out and about – come find us!
