Driving or biking around and checking out murals – aka "mural spotting" – is a perfectly enjoyable way to kill an afternoon. To provide inspiration and possible destinations, OnMilwaukee compiled this list of local murals and, just last month, reported on the latest mural to pop up in Walker’s Point.
Today, a new mural was unveiled on the outside wall of the Penfield Children’s Center, 833 N. 26th St. Painted by local artist Stacey Williams-Ng, the massive mural is 122 feet by 27 feet and entitled "Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea; joy to you and me!"
With the help of a grant from the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and Mary L. Nohl Fund, 88Nine Radio Milwaukee commissioned Williams-Ng to create the mural as a way to give back to the community in recognition of its 10th anniversary. The station commissioned another mural that will be painted later this fall in Walker’s Point.
Recently, another mural was completed inside Eastcastle Place, a "life plan community" for seniors located at 2505 E. Bradford Ave., by 15 residents. The 7-by-7-foot mural of the Milwaukee skyline took 57 hours to complete. The project was spearheaded by resident Harriet Herrick, a retired art teacher.
