Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, known as the Latin recording artist "Selena," the "Queen of Tejano Music," was killed by the president of her fan club in 1995.

This past weekend, artist Mauricio Ramirez and the Walker’s Point neighborhood honored the life and career of Quintanilla-Pérez with the installation of a new conceptual mural, "Anything for Selena."

Located at 625 S. 5th St., the 20-by-50-foot conceptual piece was completed on Sunday evening. Ramirez spent more than 25 hours working on the mural using spray paint and tape, creating a tribute to Walker’s Point history and culture as well as Selena’s musical themes, which include acceptance and love.

Ramirez grew up listening to her albums "Amor Prohibido" and "Entre a Mi Mundo." Selena also released numerous albums in English.

"I feel like this mural is an even exchange between the new developments happening in the Walker’s Point neighborhood and the heritage that Milwaukee’s South Side holds, being predominantly Hispanic," says Ramirez.
