This afternoon, the Milwaukee Brewers announced this weekend's Brewers On Deck event would unveil a new alternate look for the team: a mash-up of old and new, with the classic ball-and-glove logo and yellow color meeting up with the team's current overall navy blue look.
It's not a radical change – certainly compared to the craziness the Arizona Diamondbacks did to their hats and uniforms this offseason – but it's still a strong new look.
While the M and grain logo is a fine look, the ball-and-glove logo is a true classic, inventive, kooky and stylish in a way that's totally fun and unique. Now, using it with the navy blue and the old gold color makes all of the elements – the colors, the logo – pop just a little more, and it brings that old logo into the rest of the Brewers' identity, rather than keeping it to the side as an occasional throwback.
Speaking of those retro uniforms, they are returning, as well as the Brewers' home white, home navy and road gray jerseys. The team's road navy jerseys, as well as their mustardy gold tops that, for my taste, will not be missed.
On the field, the new jerseys can be found on most Sundays, both on the road and at home. As for off the field, fans can start purchasing the new looks at Brewers on Deck this Sunday, at the Brewers Team Store on Monday or online at brewers.com.
So while the Brewers may be terrible this season, at least they'll look good being bad.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
