Future Boxing Hall of Famer Tony Zale, known as the "Man of Steel" for his toughness in the ring, was a surefire crowd-pleaser for the Aug. 16, 1941 fight at the lakefront. But the record crowd that turned out wasn't lured by Zale's magnetism alone. They came because it didn't cost them a cent.
