Season's eatings! The weather may be getting colder, but Dining Month on OnMilwaukee is just cooking up, dishing out your winning picks in this year's Best of Dining poll. Dining Month is brought to you by Fein Brothers, your premier food service equipment and supply dealer in Wisconsin since 1929. Congratulations to all of the winners, and happy eating for all those who voted! See all the winners for the month so far here.
Gypsy Taco
According to OnMilwaukee readers, the city's best food truck may be vehicular, but it isn't totally mobile.
Gypsy Taco is located on the back patio of Boone & Crockett in Bay View. The "un-apologetically unauthentic" taco truck officially started serving tacos in 2016 and has quickly become a beloved staple. For proof: Last year was their first round in the Dining Month game, and they won by a landslide.
Dr. Pepper braised pork shoulder, braised beef tongue and seared tuna are only a few of the options available at Gypsy Taco, with side options like the corn cup with a "cult following" and churros for dessert rounding off the menu. And now we're hungry already.
Runners up:
2. The Gouda Girls
3. Funky Fresh Spring Rolls
4. Meat on the Street
5. Taqueria Arandas
OnMilwaukee editor's pick: Funky Fresh Spring Rolls
Lori Fredrich's pick: Press Waffles
If there’s one truck from which I’ve craved food all summer long (and all too often didn’t find it in hand), it’s Press and their infinitely craveable liege waffles. Yeasty and caramelized, these waffles are rich and intense, and their texture is stretchy and layered. Maybe most delightful is the faintly crunchy exterior, which is formed through the caramelization of the pearl sugar on both the exterior and interior of the waffles. As I wrote earlier this year, "These aren't the sort of waffles you can have a singular bite of and quickly forget."
