Every week in 2015, and local design company Too Much Metal join forces to introduce the latest member of the Milwaukee All-Stars – a team of unfamiliar winners living in the city who consistently and diligently make it shine. Each week, a new member will join the team – based on your recommendations – and at the end of the year all will come together in a Rally of the Raddest Milwaukeeans. We're not sure what that means quite yet, so for now, meet …

Bet-z Boenning

Bet-z (second from left) and members of her staff at The Pint.

OnMilwaukee / Too Much Metal: How long have you been doing what you do?

Bet-z Boenning: I’ve owned Walker's Pint for 14 and a half glorious years.

OnMilwaukee / Too Much Metal: Why do yo do what you do?

Boenning: There are numerous reasons. I wanted to provide a safe place for women, gay and straight, to hang out and meet people. I like being social and I get to meet so many different kinds of people – it's awesome. I enjoy throwing events and parties because those seem to make people happy. I like being able to use my space to help those in need though fundraisers and things like that. And finally, I like to drink.

OnMilwaukee / Too Much Metal: What is your favorite season in Milwaukee?

Boenning: My favorite season in Milwaukee is summer – all the fun festivals at the lakefront and in different neighborhoods to go to, the farmers markets, people are moving and grooving, the city seems so alive with activity after a long winter.

OnMilwaukee / Too Much Metal: What is your favorite or last favorite Milwaukee smell?

Boenning: My favorite smell is all the grills going at Miller Park during tailgating. My least favorite smell is Jones Island wafting thru the South Side. Yucka.

OnMilwaukee / Too Much Metal: What is your hope for Milwaukee?

Boenning: My hope is that Milwaukeeans don't let the negative things that are happening around town these days affect their pride in this city. This is a great city with so much to offer. We just need to come together and realize that when we work together we can continue to make this city even better. A better travel destination, a better family-friendly city and a vibrant city with something to offer to all walks of life.

OnMilwaukee / Too Much Metal: When did you first fall in love with Milwaukee?

Boenning: I first fell in love with Milwaukee as a child back in ’81-’82 going to County Stadium to watch the Brewers. Pepsi Brewers fan club member right here.

OnMilwaukee / Too Much Metal: What is your one guilty pleasure?

Boenning: My guilty pleasure? Oh gosh, I guess it would be food, so O’Lydia’s mozzarella sticks – I don’t get them enough – or Triskele’s braised beef.

OnMilwaukee / Too Much Metal: If you could high five one Milwaukeean, who would it be?

Boenning: I would definitely high five Gene Wilder – and then I would tell him, "Good day sir … I said, good day."

Do you know a Milwaukee All-Star? and Too Much Metal are looking for true-hearted folks living in the city of Milwaukee who love what they do – and do it with zest and style. Email or with recommendations.
