Bill Maher’s in Milwaukee this upcoming weekend.  And while I can’t make his standup gig Saturday at The Riverside Theater his "Real Time" on HBO is a entertaining show and one that’s on my regular viewing list.

It’s a political show, sure, and he has his opinions (as we all do).  I get it, Bill, you don’t believe in God.  I do.  We’re good.  Yet, agree or disagree with Maher you gotta hand it to him and his producers for creating a weekly show that’s full of quality guests, big ideas, great banter, fun bits like his weekly "New Rules" segment, frequent smack downs and solid use of social media.

Maher’s a comedian, but like many similar comedian/commentators today he’s an activist, entertainer and multimedia celebrity.  I don’t agree with everything he says, nor should you. Frankly you shouldn’t agree with "everything" anyone in these types of roles says or does.  But you can appreciate their craft and ability to create conversations and arguments.

If you’re going on Saturday, you may hear more about his thoughts on how too many in America today don’t seem to care how they look and dress.  In his final segment on "Real Time" this past weekend, Maher said, "Maybe no one’s bothered to bring this to your attention, people of America, so let me say it plainly here and now.  When you leave your house, we can see you!"

He called for "pride and common purpose" and implored that we as a society "stop going to Target in pajama bottoms."  It was funny bit and one that he related to the "broken windows theory," a mindset I’ve always appreciated (note this 2008 blog) and believed in knowing that doing the little things like picking up garbage, buying someone coffee, opening doors, mowing your yard, painting, looking nice when you go out, etc. just might help affect and nullify bigger problems.

Enjoy the segment (language warning) below and get tickets for Maher’s show here. Ticket prices are $49.50 or $65.
