Black Husky is brewing a somewhat rare amber IPA called Off the Record in collaboration with the Milwaukee Press Club to raise money for journalism scholarships.

The 6 percent ABV brew will be released at an event at the brewery taproom, 909 E. Locust St., in Riverwest, on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 2 to 6 p.m.

“Working on these one-off projects is quite enjoyable as there is the challenge to create a product based on discussions with those who are commissioning the beer,” says Black Husky Brewer and co-owner Tim Eichinger.

“While this beer is an IPA adding the amber component will add a malty sweetness to complement the hop usage.”

Great Lakes Brewing and Bierly Brewing have also brewed this lesser-seen style.

The beer will be available in 16-ounce four-pack cans at Black Husky and on tap at the Newsroom Pub, 137 E. Wells St.

A portion of sales of the beer will go to the Milwaukee Press Club Endowment, which funds scholarships for high school and college students pursuing journalism careers. The can art will also include a QR code that allows people to make direct donations to the fund.

“This beer is a unique opportunity to raise awareness and support for the next generation of journalists,” said Press Club President Maryann Lazarski. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Black Husky Brewing and invite the entire Milwaukee community to join us for a fun day of great beer, food and giving back.”

The Nov. 9 release event will also have a raffle to benefit the endowment and food from Pedro’s South American Food Truck.
