After using the Hoan Bridge over the weekend to tease the new look, the Milwaukee Bucks today officially revealed their new City Edition alternate uniforms – and they're slightly but significantly different from what we thought we'd see.
Due to an early supposed leak, fans knew that the new look – replacing the team's Cream City jerseys from last season – would be blue, one of the team's less utilized colors in its scheme. The newly revealed uniforms, however, are much more unique than expected, featuring the same design as the leaked look – a white slanted block "MILWAUKEE" with the uniform number underneath to the right – but with multiple tones of blue designed in wave patterns across the new jerseys.
The new uniform appeared to be a Greek tribute in the original leak, but the final design is far more a tribute to Lake Michigan and Milwaukee's place along the water. According to the official release, the shades of blue "represent the three rivers that run through Milwaukee, as well as the depths of Lake Michigan" with the city's reputation as "the gathering place by the water" serving as the key inspiration – so much so that the logan "gathering place" is sewn into the uniforms above the label at the bottom of the jersey top.
Also, what appeared to be a marble finish on the numbers on the new jersey is instead actually "a special coating that will reflect the light in a way that gives the illusion that the numbers themselves are wet."
Overall, it's a good look – in fact, one much better than what the original leak revealed, which at first glance seemed pretty boringly simple and bland besides finally showcasing the team's blue hue. Thankfully, the leak wasn't entirely right – this is much better. Here, the different shades bring some nice contrast and visual excitement to the jersey while still keeping a clean and cool look, and the wave design is just on the right side of bold, dynamic but not too overdone to appear kitschy or over-the-top. (And the Bucks would know about going over the top with past City Edition uniforms.)
Right now, I say it's another win for the Bucks, one that should fit in nicely with the rest of the team's set – this is just an alternate jersey; their green, white and black uniforms are all still in rotation as well – and one that hopefully will look even better on the court in action. After all, winning makes everything look better.
But what about the most important question: When can you get your hands on these new duds? Good news: You won't have to wait long as the City Edition collection – complete with the jerseys as well as similarly themed hats, shirts and more – will hit the Bucks' shelves on Thursday, Dec. 3. The online pro shop will make the collection available starting at 9 a.m., while the in-person team store at Fiserv Forum will open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
And now that we've seen the new uniform, all we're waiting for now this offseason is for a certain two-time MVP to hopefully sign a big deal. So stay tuned to OnMilwaukee for updates on that little subplot and for more Bucks stories as the new season draws closer.
As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.
When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
