As the best players in the world take on Erin Hills in Wisconsin this week, casual local golfers may be reminded just how "sub-par" their skills really are.
But luckily, to also help remind people how fun golf can be, from June 15-17 the touring Cosmic Driving Range tour will be coming to Oakwood Golf Course in Franklin.
Cosmic Driving Range is a glow-up, night-time driving range that can be compared to the popular Topgolf game.
For three nights only, the Oakwood Golf Course will feature three different golf experiences that players of any skill level can enjoy.
Glow Bays and Driving Range
The neon colored "Glow Bays" will be lit up every night for participants to enjoy.
As opposed to a regular driving range, where the most exciting thing to aim for is the yardage signs – besides the steel-caged tractor that picks up balls – Cosmic Driving Range changes the game.
Targets on the range include huge light-up structures that make noises and flash when hit by the special glow-in-the-dark balls that are provided.
Usually when glow balls are provided they are not of the highest performance quality. However, the balls provided at the Cosmic Driving Range are premier golf balls with a glow-in-the-dark pigment that provides "daytime golf" performance.
Tee Times are available from 9-11 p.m.
Cosmic Skills Challenge Games
Other than hitting balls at huge light-up targets, participants will be able to test their abilities in the skills challenges provided every 15 minutes at the range.
For an additional $10 per individual per game, participants can choose to play any of the three games available: Cosmic Putting, Cosmic Glass Break and Flop Shot Limbo.
All golfers know how stressful it can be to get on the green and have to putt well to make a decent score. Those who experience this often should be sure to try the Cosmic Putting game that turns putting into a pinball-style experience.
Ever have an outing where nothing seems to be going right and you just want to drive your ball through a window? Well, at the Cosmic Driving Range you can, to a certain extent. The Cosmic Glass Break allows participants to drive their ball through breakaway glass panels.
In Flop Shot Limbo the player must hit the ball over a wall, ranging from 5-9 feet high, and try to land it as close to the wall as possible on the other side.
Prizes will be awarded every hour to the best player in each game, including a year of free beer from City Light Brewing, Summerfest tickets and more.
Friday Cosmic Night Golf
On June 16, for one night only, Oakwood Golf Course will have four holes with illuminated tee boxes and greens for players to enjoy.
Tee times are 9:45-11:45 p.m. on Friday night.
