After serving hungry customers at its Glendale for nearly 15 years, Dr. Dawg is making a big move.
The locally owned eatery will bring its Chicago dogs, Italian beef and char-grilled burgers to a new location at 105 W. Freistadt Rd. in Thiensville. That’s the former home of Daily Taco + Tequila, which closed its doors in late 2024.
And while there’s always a bit of emotion involved in a move, Dr. Dawg’s new Thiensville home will offer patrons numerous new amenities including a full bar, a spacious patio and prime access to the Interurban Bike Trail.
The move also aligns with expansion on the part of the Village of Thiensville, which is breaking ground on a mixed-used development across the street, among other projects.
“We’re excited about this next step for Dr. Dawg and the opportunity to enhance the experience for our loyal customers,” notes Owner Brooke Thomson. “With our new location, expanded amenities, and an increased focus on community engagement, we look forward to welcoming everyone to enjoy great food and a lively atmosphere.”
What to expect
Inspired by beloved Chicago hot dog joints, grills and street food vendors, the Dr. Dawg menu is designed to fulfill cravings for Windy City comfort food favorites, from dogs dragged through the garden to Italian beef sandwiches.
But guests will also find well-prepared char-grilled burgers (Burger Trail appproved) and tasty hand-cut fries (get the rosemary garlic fries).
Dr. Dawg’s also features carefully selected ingredients that are sourced with the restaurant’s mantra ("comfort food with a natural twist") in mind, from prime certified humane Angus burgers from Niman Ranch; cage-free chicken raised without growth hormones; 100% beef hot dogs; fresh produce that’s locally sourced whenever possible; and products purchased from local vendors including Cedar Crest, Sprecher and Usinger’s.
In addition to its signature offerings, the new space will also showcase live music on the patio during summer months as well as interactive games like cornhole and Jenga.
The grand opening of the new Thiensville location is set for Thursday, June 5, 2025, with special promotions and events planned for the launch.
Give ‘em some love
The current location in the strip mall at 6969 N. Port Washington Rd., will remain open until roughly mid-May before closing down to accommodate the transition to the new location. So fans still have time to pay a visit and enjoy a final meal in Glendale.
Dr. Dawg is actively seeking a tenant for the Glendale location and has worked with General Capital to list the space while exploring potential corporate restaurant concepts that could benefit from the prime setup.
