When it comes to foods with a cult-like following, there might be few as long-standing as Mama Mia’s garlic bread, a delicacy which has been described in myriad reviews as "garlic bread heaven," the "ultimate garlic bread" and "the best garlic bread in the world."
The bread, which is prepared with freshly baked loaves, is served up swimming in a glorious puddle of garlic and butter. The sliced loaves are soaked with butter and garlic with an ultra crisp exterior, an indisputably crunchy crust and a soft, chewy interior.
So when we heard that Mama Mia’s also serves a grilled cheese sandwich made with melted mozzarella cheese cradled between two slices of their housemade garlic bread with a side of meat sauce for dipping, we knew we had to give it a try.
Since the FoodCrush podcast is all about celebrating delicious food (and the folks who make it), podcast co-hosts Lori Fredrich and Matt Miller hightailed it to the classic Mama Mia’s location at 8533 W. Greenfield Ave. in West Allis for their first-ever live taste test.
