The sun is starting to stay out longer, the weather is (finally) warming up, and there’s all sorts of sports action picking up as well. That being said, it’s important that you find the right place to take it all in, and very few bars have the combination of sports and sun that makes a spring afternoon or early evening out feel just right. Enter Who’s on Layton (512 W. Layton Ave.) however, and you’ll get it all under one roof.

The bar is decked out in Milwaukee sports memorabilia, and also features both an outdoor patio as well as a sun porch area with TVs to catch whatever game you’re trying to watch. They also feature a full selection of food to go along with your drink of choice, with a menu that has a distinctly Wisconsin feel. Whether it’s the Bucks in the postseason, or the Brewers getting off to a relatively hot start this year, Who’s on Layton has the environment for it all, with the help of your friendly neighborhood South Side sports fans to cheer alongside, as well.

The right drink, however, is also crucial to the game day experience. Fortunately, Who’s on Layton has that in great supply too. Seeing as there is a wall of Jameson bottles that meet your eyes as soon as you walk into the bar, that’s where I naturally gravitated towards. However, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to ask for a Jameson 007 this time around. The concoction includes Jameson whiskey, Triple Sec liqueur, orange juice and white soda, shaken, not stirred of course. With just a kiss of citrus, it definitely drinks smooth, and even smoother when you’re watching your favorite team pull off a victory.

Jameson 007

Chill glass with ice while mixing, but remove before pouring

  • 2 ounces Jameson
  • 1/2 ounce Triple Sec
  • 1 ounce orange juice
  • Splash of Sprite
  • Garnish with an orange

With a simple recipe like this, you can definitely make this drink at home (while watching your favorite Bond movie) or, if it’s a game day, head over to Who’s On Layton to experience it for yourself. Cheers!
