For the 10th straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee, presented by the restaurants of Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, dining guides, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as voting for your "Best of Dining 2016."

Sobelman's

The Menomonee Valley burger bar has long been a favorite among Milwaukeeans of all walks of life. With locations now at Marquette and in Mequon the burger base for Sobelman's continues to grow. If you are a burger lover or just like to hit up classic Wisconsin joints do yourself a favor and make a visit to this one.

Lori Fredrich's pick: Goodkind

The burger game has been upped this year, and it’s made life both more delicious and more difficult for burger lovers to choose where to dine. I’m giving my pick for this year to Goodkind. Maybe it’s because they only offer up burgers on Tuesdays, making them a particularly special event. But, I haven’t been able to get enough of them yet.

This year we also asked a variety of prominent Milwaukeeans to weigh in on their pick for specific categories. For this category, we consulted Sarah Berg, burger lover extraordinaire.

Sarah's pick: Nite Owl Drive-In

The Nite Owl Drive-In isn’t on most people’s radar for great burgers but it’s among the best in Milwaukee. Nothing fancy – a fresh ground burger that has a true beef taste on a regular bun. No brioche buns, no pretzel buns, no kimchi relish, no tomato jam… just a simple, tasty burger with (or without) cheese or bacon, ketchup and mustard. And when you pair a simple great burger with crinkle cut French fries or onion rings and a great shake, you’ve got a great meal. I always enjoy sitting in their dining room among the nostalgic Milwaukee memorabilia on the walls, and when that burger comes out, I’m raring to dig in. Get a banana shake – the perfect cool, sweet accompaniment to the umami goodness on a bun… you’ll be glad you did!
