All moms are not the same when it comes to how we want to celebrate Mother's Day. For some, a phone call is plenty. Others appreciate flowers and a card. And other mothers, myself included, prefer the gift of spending time and doing something cool with our kids.

So whether you are spending time with your mom or your kids or both, here are 10 ideas of activities to do for Mother's Day. And if you just want to have a kid-free day, that's perfectly fine, too! You do you, mamacita.

1. Got a wild mom? Take her to the zoo!

On Sunday, May 12 all moms get into the zoo for free between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Be sure to wish the animal moms a Happy Mother’s Day, like lioness Patty Sharptooth, harbor seal Cossette and De Brazza’s monkey Holly. Here’s everything you need to know about visiting the zoo.

2. Paint, drink and eat tacos

Get an early start to Mother’s Day at Farmhouse Paint Bar. On Thursday, May 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. take mom to the Farmhouse, 4511 S. 6th St., for a step-by-step, artist led painting class. Includes access to a taco bar and a margarita. Sign up here.

3. Stroll the Streets Of Old Milwaukee

The Milwaukee Public Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday and the Streets of Old Milwaukee are a quaint setting to emphasize your mom appreciation. There’s also a room full of butterflies, an igloo to hang out in and, of course, two snake buttons to find! More museum deets here.

4. Run with mum

The Milwaukee Mother’s Day 5k, half marathon and marathon is this Sunday at the Lakefront. There’s also a kids’ 100-meter dash. The event is a fundraiser for the Wisconsin Ovarian Cancer Alliance. Enjoy mimosas and cake pops at the finish line! More here.

5. Do The Domes

Take mom to the Georgia O’Keefe show at The Domes anytime between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The first 50 moms will receive a special pin. More info here.

6. Take her out to the ball game!

The Brewers play the Cardinals on Sunday at 1:10 p.m. Buy her a hotdog and a beer, too. She deserves it! Buy yourself a hotdog and a beer. You deserve it! Get Brewers tickets here.

7. Get arty

The Milwaukee Art Museum is open on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. At 2 p.m. there’s a special “Celebrating Mother’s Day” tour and drop-in art making in the Kohl’s Studio runs until 4 p.m. More here.

8. Flower power shopping

It’s flower season so hit a garden center or two on Sunday, and then help mom beautify her garden or home with your purchases. Here’s a guide to local garden and plant shops.

9. Moms on film

Take mom to a movie in the opulent Oriental Theatre. They’re running a “Cool Moms Series” this week, including “Terms of Endearment” on Sunday at 1 p.m. Other great “mom” movies screening this month include “20th Century Women,” “Grey Gardens” and “Postcards from the Edge.” More here.

10. And of course, there's always brunch

We’re pretty sure five out of five moms like brunch – especially when it’s with one of their very favorite humans. Peruse all the local brunch spots here.
