Mystic Knot is back again in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
This limited edition barrel-aged Irish coffee stout release has become an annual tradition at Third Space Brewing, 1505 W. St. Paul Ave., and this year’s is the sixth iteration.
This year’s version, which will be released on draft and in cans starting at noon on Saturday, March 11, is a 10.5 percent ABV Imperial Cream Stout that was aged seven months in ex-Heaven Hill barrels and then steeped with Stone Creek Coffee.
“Mystic Knot is my favorite Barrel-Aged release that we do each year,” said Co-founder and Brewmaster Kevin Wright. “There is something magical about the combination of the sweet stout base, the bourbon barrels and the fresh coffee from our friends at Stone Creek.”
There are three variants this year:
- Mystic Caliente: inspired by the flavors of a Mexican Hot Chocolate with additions of vanilla, cacao, chili peppers, and cinnamon, along with Stone Creek 3 Volcanoes coffee.
- Mystic Dude: inspired by “The Dude’s” favorite beverage – the White Russian, created with an extra dosing of lactose, along with Stone Creek 3 Volcanoes coffee.
- Mystic Double Shot Rum: aged first in Bourbon barrels, then finished in rum barrels for an intricate, layered flavor, that is then steeped with Stone Creek’s Green Bike Espresso Blend Coffee.
“I'm really looking forward to the Double Shot this year as it was aged in Bourbon and then Rum and dosed with twice the coffee,” said Wright.
“One of our favorite parts of Mystic Knot's return is the fun we have creating new limited variants of this popular barrel-aged stout,” added Co-Founder and President Andy Gehl.
"As a huge fan of 'The Dude,' I'm particularly excited for the White Russian-inspired, Mystic Dude – I think it really ties the series together!"
Mystic Knot, Mystic Caliente and Mystic Dude will be available in 12-ounce four-packs and Mystic Double Shot Rum will be sold only as 16-ounce singles. Pre-order at shopthirdspace.com/inthespirit and pick up any time when Third Space Brewing is open, Saturday, March 11-Sunday, March 12.
A Mystic Knot release party starts at noon on Saturday, March 11, at the taproom and includes live Celtic bluegrass by Derek Byrne and Paddygrass accompanied by Irish dancers, from 1 to 4 p.m., and food from the Roll MKE food truck from noon until 5.
