For the ninth straight year, October is Dining Month on OnMilwaukee, presented by the restaurants of Potawatomi Hotel & Casino. All month, we're stuffed with restaurant reviews, dining guides, delectable features, chef profiles and unique articles on everything food, as well as voting for your "Best of Dining 2015."
You might want to head over to Wauwatosa this Wednesday, Oct. 7 to take a sneak peek at a new project headed up by Surly Brewing Company.
A release party for a new piece of collaborative art, commissioned by the Minnesota-based brewry, will take place at Hue, 6519 W. North Ave. from 7 to 9 p.m.
Ever since Surly invaded Wisconsin on June 1, Surly brews have been cropping up all over the city thanks to a distribution deal with Wisconsin-based Beechwood Specialty Sales and Service which allows Surly to distribute throughout the state. And slowly but surely, the brewery is making its way across Wisconsin, hosting events and tap takeovers just about everywhere.
Over the past ten years, the Minneapolis-based brewery has become known almost as much for its art as for its beer. After all, each of its beers sports art from folks like Erica Williams, Josh "Jawsh" Lemke, Brent Schoonover, Aesthetic Apparatus, DWITT, Nic Skrade, and Adam Turman.
Now that Surly is available in Wisconsin, the brewery decided to commission a collaborative piece that reflects both who Surly is and the nature of its growing relationship with the good folks across the Dairy State.
So, the brewery found three talented Wisconsinites to help them illustrate their journey across Wisconsin: Christopher Richardson, an indie cartoonist and freelance illustrator from Madison, designed the Western section. David Mark Zimmerman, a designer and illustrator from Milwaukee, designed the Central piece. Meanwhile, Mic Makalinao, an illustrator, musician, and bartender from Bay View, designed the Eastern section.
The collaborative poster will make its debut on Wednesday during the event at Hue Wauwatosa. The Surly team and some of the artists will be in attendance to talk beer and art. There will be free appetizers, along with plenty of Surly brews. Even better, a $10 donation to the East Tosa Alliance and Made in Milwaukee will get you a free Surly a limited edition poster. And, if you’re among the first 50 to arrive, your poster will be signed. Get all the details at SurlyBrewing.com
