The Great Milwaukee Summer is HERE! Your guide to what you'll be doing, where you'll be drinking, who you'll be hearing and how you'll be getting a sweet tan this summer is on OnMilwaukee. The Great Milwaukee Summer guide is brought to you by Geis Garage Doors and Peoples State Bank

The summer may feel like it's half over, but there are still a ton of festivals and live outdoor local music to come this season. And we're apparently not even done adding to the list, as Vivarium announced a new series of free outdoor concerts coming to several beer gardens around the city beginning Wednesday, July 31.

Indeed, the foliage-friendly East Side music venue found a way to get even greener this summer, venturing into various Milwaukee County Parks beer gardens – The Vine Humboldt, South Shore Terrace and Whitnall Beer Garden, to be particular – on Wednesdays throughout August for a batch of free concerts. Each Wednesday night show will take the stage from 6-8 p.m., with the nearby beer gardens serving up tasty libations to go along with the live local music.

Here's the schedule for the new Vivarium in the Green free concert series:

  • Wednesday, July 31 – Max and the Fellow Travelers, at The Vine Humboldt
  • Wednesday, Aug. 7 – Ladybird, at The Vine Humboldt
  • Wednesday, Aug. 14 – Social Cig, at the Whitnall Beer Garden
  • Wednesday, Aug. 21 – Old Pulp, at The Vine Humboldt
  • Wednesday, Aug. 28 – Jacob Slade, at South Shore Terrace

“The series is named after our newest venue on Milwaukee’s East Side, Vivarium, a ‘place of life’ that’s rooted in the city and nurtures developing and local artists. With the help of our friends at Molson Coors and Milwaukee County Parks, we’re excited to continue showcasing incredible local talent while, at the same time, highlighting the beauty and accessibility of Milwaukee’s parks,” said Gary Witt, Pabst Theater Group president and CEO, in a release. “We’re incredibly lucky to have a park system that’s incorporated the city’s rich beer garden history into today’s cultural landscape, helping to drive all walks of life to Milwaukee’s gorgeous natural spaces."

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
