A combination of wanderlust and dissatisfaction with the professional world caused Drew Griswold to quit his 9 to 5, sell most of his stuff and start roaming around the world.

Eventually, however, it was time to return to work. With a background in non-profit and social cause marketing, Griswold decided to start a new kind of retail store.

"I wanted to start one that was constantly evolving, constantly improving and constantly moving," says Griswold. "A store that encourages people to live passionately and a store that encourages positive change with products that inspire."

In September 2014, Griswold started the online store Wander & Co., a "social cause shop" that carries a selection of lifestyle products.

"I have been lucky enough to do a fair amount of traveling in my 25 short years, but that isn't the only motivation for the ‘Wander’ in the Wander & Co. name," says Griswold.

Every time a customer makes a purchase through Wander & Co., a portion of the sale goes to a social cause.

"My goal is to give people access to incredible products that do more to give back. We work exclusively with manufacturers and retailers that are committed to making the world a better place," says Griswold.

Currently, Wander & Co. offers products from five manufacturers: LSTN Headphones, sunglasses from Panda Eyewear, Claro Candles, Denik notebooks and necklaces and bracelets from Jewelry For A Cause.

"Every product we sell has a direct social cause benefit attached to it. For example, every pair of headphones helps provide hearing aids to a person in need, the sunglasses help provide vision to a person in need, the notebooks help build schools in developing countries and so on," says Griswold.

"The companies / products offered were chosen because they offer great products that benefit great causes. I am essentially aggregating companies that are doing things that I admire, and many of these companies have been doing this work for several years."

Each product's description on the online store includes the organization / movement that benefits from the purchase.

"All of the products we offer do more to give back and make the world a better place," he says.

Griswold works directly with local non-profits. On Thursday, Nov. 6, the Center for Communication, Hearing and Deafness (CCHD) will host a "Corks and Kegs" fundraiser event where Griswold will sell products and donate 10 percent of the proceeds to CCHD on top of the giving outcomes that are already built in to the products.

"I'd love to work more with local organizations to help them raise funds through retail," he says.

Grisworld grew up in Milwaukee’s Merrill Park neighborhood. He graduated from UW-Milwaukee in 2011.

"I currently live in Wauwatosa. I love it out here, especially with all the wonderful bars and restaurants opening up left and right," he says.

Starting in January, Wander & Co. will add a mobile retail shop. Griswold plans to also showcase his retail shop at festivals and events all over the country next year.

"The Wander & Co. online store has something for everybody. I’m hoping people remember this during the holidays and buy a gift that gives beyond the purchased item," says Griswold.
