It has been almost a year since Steph Davies opened her boutique / art consignment shop The Waxwing, 4415 N. Oakland Ave., and she's ready to celebrate.

On Friday, March 15, The Waxwing will host an anniversary party from 6 to 9 p.m. There will be new art on the walls, live music by Thriftones, raffle prizes and more.

"I can't believe it's already been a year, time definitely flew right by. I learned to just ride the ride, for every slow day we had where I was biting my nails and asking myself if I could do this we'd have an amazing day to counter it and those days were like the universe telling me, 'hell yes, you should do this!'" says Davies.

The Waxwing sells an eclectic array of art on consignment by more than 100 local and national artists. Think Art vs. Craft as a a year-round shop where the stock is constantly changing and growing.

"The most rewarding part of this has been the relationships I've built with the artists and with the community of people who have come to be regular customers. The support from both these groups has blown me away," says Davies.

"I hope that more shops like The Waxwing – and Sparrow Collective, etc. – pop up around Milwaukee supporting local artists. And I hope that Milwaukee continues to do all it can to support local: locally owned, locally made, just local."

Molly Snyder started writing and publishing her work at the age 10, when her community newspaper printed her poem, "The Unicorn.” Since then, she's expanded beyond the subject of mythical creatures and written in many different mediums but, nearest and dearest to her heart, thousands of articles for OnMilwaukee.

Molly is a regular contributor to FOX6 News and numerous radio stations as well as the co-host of "Dandelions: A Podcast For Women.” She's received five Milwaukee Press Club Awards, served as the Pfister Narrator and is the Wisconsin State Fair’s Celebrity Cream Puff Eating Champion of 2019.
