Another weekend, another set of recommendations from your friends at OnMilwaukee.com. This time, they run the gamut from golf courses to delicious goodies to gory action movies.

Lake Park Golf Course – It's fall. Yes, I know it. It kinda sucks. But being a Midwesterner, I've come to love playing golf in the chillier weather. It can be a grind, especially when it's cold, and there's rain ... so take it easy on yourself and go play Lake Park Golf Course.

I absolutely loved this little 18-hole, 1,154-yard course right off Lake Drive. The teeing grounds and target greens have shaggier grass, so you don’t really get a feel for hitting your wedges off of a fairway lie, and the greens won’t really enhance your putting game, but you can definitely get it up on and on roll ‘em in if you put some authority on it.

Lake Park is perfect to build confidence in your short wedges. I used my 56 degree wedge three times and my 60 degree the rest, and if you miss a green, you really have to concentrate to get up and down since you’re often left a delicate chip. It’s a great practice facility and family friendly, too.

Lasagna Soup – When it starts to get darker earlier, and the wind picks up a bit, soup time is here! One of my all time favorites it lasagna soup. I originally found it here and have adapted it a bit while making it over the years. Lasagna is a craving that can be time consuming and honestly, not all that healthy. So this soup, with its veggies (I've added mushrooms to it as well), makes me feel healthier, even if the hot Italian Sausage is not. Lasagna soup is in my rotation all winter long, and I hope you add it to yours. – Carolynn Buser

Make-you-own waffle stations at hotels – Maybe it's because I never worked in a diner and always wanted to, but I love when hotels have make-you-own waffle makers as part of their complimentary breakfast. I really enjoy the process of waffle making, and they always turn out so perfectly. Maybe I should just break down and buy my very own waffle maker, but for now I'll just covet the ones at La Quintas and Country Inns. Pass the syrup. –Molly Snyder

"Dredd" – The other night, I was at The Newsroom Pub when I overheard a couple down the bar talking about "Dredd." The guy was trying to convince the woman that yes, it was actually really awesome, and no, it's nothing like that terrible 1995 version starring Sylvester Stallone. Of course, I had to chime in and try to help his cause, officially making me that awkward guy at the bar. It was worth it, though, not only because she seemed convinced that she should see "Dredd," but because suddenly all I could think about was watching it again.

The film has just enough story for the glorified B-movie that it is. In the dystopian future, Judge Dredd (Karl Urban, acting with the scowl to end all scowls) is training a new recruit on the ways of the law when they get trapped in a massive slum complex by its murderous drug lord ruler (Lena Headey) and have to fight their way out.

What ensues is an intense and awesome 90 minutes of explosions, smartly written tough guy talk and tense, bloody action. It's pretty much exactly what you'd want from a movie of its caliber. It did awful at the box office when it came out around this time last year, but it's on Netflix Instant now. Which means you no longer have any excuse for missing it. – Matt Mueller
