A movie/special event double feature, a new vino, golf swag and more are what's in store for you in this week's OnMilwaukee.com Recommends.

"Beauty is Embarrassing" film and after-party – This earnest and genuinely funny documentary showcases the life and career of award-winning artist and puppeteer Wayne White, who is known for his distinctive paintings and work creating "Pee-Wee's Playhouse." It screens at 5 p.m. this Sunday at the Oriental Theatre as part of the 2012 Milwaukee Film Festival. The film is a can't-miss, but the after-party is sure to be even better. Stop by Alterra Prospect from 6:30 to 10 p.m. after the screening to meet and hang out with director Neil Berkeley and White himself. – Renee Lorenz

Lucente 2009 – When most folks think of Tuscany they don't think merlot, but Luce della Vite's purple-red Lucente is a great "super Tuscan" expression of merlot in harmony with sangiovese, in a 75-25 blend. I tried the 2009 vintage – an good year for many winemakers in Montalcino – and was pleased to find it fruity and peppery and round, with smooth tannins. With 14.5 percent alcohol, Lucente is no lightweight, but it is graceful, with a nice body. The balance between the cherry and blackberry flavors at the start and the mild hint of spice, with a nice long finish, had me hooked. Though at $30 (I found it at a couple places online for $20, and at others for $40!) it's a bit pricier than I can afford to drink on a daily basis, Lucente is so delicious that it's the perfect wine for special occasions and dinners with friends, who will take one sip and be wowed. – Bobby Tanzilo

TaylorMade RocketBallz – With the Ryder Cup going on just over the border in Illinois, it's the last time golf is on our radar in 2012. So, let me do you a quick favor by pointing out the "must get" piece of equipment to put a exclamation point on your season as we head into the home stretch (or the perfect holiday gift for the golfer in your life).

Count me a skeptic when it comes to the equipment industry – I find that it's rare to discover something truly "superior" – but TaylorMade did it with its RocketBallz line this year. It is a light driver, but more importantly for the average player, the face is so, so much hotter. The ball screams off the club, giving you that extra yardage we all desperately want.

I did have some initial control issues with it as I adjusted to the lighter weight, and the combination of a little quicker speed with a hotter face caused some serious spin. But, once I got a feel for the club, I couldn’t believe the results. I would definitely recommend a range session or two before taking it out to the golf course, but it without question the best driver I've ever hit. – Jim Owczarski

Athens, Ga. – Inside/Out (Omnivore Recordings) – At the tail end of the 1980s Athens musical explosion came this film, "Athens, Ga. – Inside/Out," featuring R.E.M., Pylon, Love Tractor, Flat Duo Jets, The B-52s and others, and exploring how one Georgia college town gave the world so much great music. This two-disc set from Omnivore (the label co-owned by Milwaukee's Cheryl Pawelski) includes a DVD of the film, with bonus material include commentaries, extra scenes, an interview with Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson from The B-52's and more. The second disc is the long-out-of-print 13-song soundtrack from the film plus five bonus tracks from Love Tractor (including a cover of The Rolling Stones' "Shattered" with R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, Bar-B-Q Killers and Kilkenny Cats). This digipak set is now the definitive document of one of America's most influential music scenes of the post-punk era. – Bobby Tanzilo
