Last year, I went to a Taco John's for the first time when the Wyoming-based chain opened its first Milwaukee location. Since then, I've zipped through at least three more times to satisfy a new snack food favorite: Potato Olés.

This week, Racine County folks gained access to not only these crispy, deep fried potato rounds, but to all the "Wex-Tex" goodies with the opening of a Mt. Pleasant eatery at 6915 Washington Ave.

Taco John's offers classic Mexican fare like tacos, burritos and quesadillas – and some with a twist. They also specialize in nachos, fried chicken and offer the seemingly-rare-these-days taco salad in a crunchy, tortilla bowl. About a dozen items are on the special ValuEST Menu, which means they start at $2 like the Nacho Crunch Beef or Chicken Burrito, Spicy Steak or Chicken Potato Grillers and, yes, the beloved Potato Olés. Combo Meals and Meal Steals starting at $5 are also available.

Mt. Pleasant’s first Taco John’s is owned and operated by the Pentex Restaurant Group, Taco John’s largest franchisee with nearly 50 restaurants in their portfolio. It is the group's 9th location in the state.

“We’re thrilled to continue expanding across the state of Wisconsin, bringing the unbeatable flavor and value of Taco John’s made-to-order menu items to local residents,” said Brett Itterman, Chief Executive Officer of Pentex Restaurant Group.

The Mt. Pleasant Taco John’s is open for breakfast, seven days a week, from 6 a.m. until 12 a.m. Can I get an "Olé?!"
